We are home from vacation, and I'm not much more rested than when I left, though it is now entirely my own fault and I can't blame my employer in the slightest.
The trip was very nice; NYAB's family was as delightful as ever; his brother and sister both took time out to entertain us and I hope they had fun as well -- and the only moment of discord was when the Young Prince decided that our instructions of "Get away from the cat that is yowwwwwling and hissing at you" (and giving you ample warning and every chance in the book to leave it alone,) meant, "Try to jump over said cat in an effort to get away from it and go sit on the stairs," which landed him with a couple of nasty bruisy scratches. I would like to think he learned something from that little encounter, but I'm afraid I rather doubt it.
We also saw the Children's Museum in Indianapolis, which was short on promised Star Wars items, but long on overall entertainment and an excellent place to spend a day, especially a day as rainy as the one we were there.
And we somehow landed ourselves in the middle of Black Expo, which was also pretty entertaining, especially being stuck in its traffic for a good solid hour or so coming and going to Uncle David's house. People watching never fails to entertain, I tell you what.
After JB's family, we moved on to mine in Illinois -- a much slower pace, given my grandparents, and much hotter experience given the lack of air conditioning. My mother kindly fed us all my favorites and my dad whipped the YP into a toy and tussling frenzy as usual ... though the YP was also rather cranky and tired and fluctuated between bratty and acceptable, depending on if he was stuck in the house being told not to touch things or stuck outside sweating while jumping on the trampoline or stumping across a golf course. JB suffered the brunt of this, I think, as I spent most of my time sitting with my cranky and tired grandfather who vacillated similarly, though less energetically. Still, it was a nice visit overall and my grandmother was as gracious and example-setting as ever and I still wish I could live up to her style and fortitude.
After family, we headed north -- stopping off at the Mormon enclave of Nauvoo, which was quite interesting, not to mention an extremely pretty area -- and then on to the Quad Cities for Bix Fest and visiting friends.
Part two tomorrow.
