Heh. I sort of forgot I was doing this. I don't know how many I've left off. Sigh. What is included are all first-time viewings for me, with no counting the endless repeats of the Young Prince's Fave Flix:
Ned Kelly -- good scenery.
House of Sand and Fog -- interesting character development.
Magnificent Seven -- Better than JB led me to think.
Bourne Identity -- Eh. Nice car chase.
Bourne Supremacy -- Eh.
The Bat -- Silly.
House on Haunted Hill (original) -- I liked the remake better.
The Pink Panther (original) -- Amusing.
Last House on the Left -- Oh, my god, so weak. So. Not. Scary. Waste of time.
Mean Girls -- It's no Heathers, but not bad.
To Catch a Thief -- Very clever.
Born Free -- Horrible song. Annoying woman. Cute lion cubs, nice grownup lion shots.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks -- Not bad. Angela Lansbury is not very convincing as a lover of children, or as a youngish apprentice witch, or even as a singer, but it still worked out OK.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir -- Not bad. Rex Harrison is not very convincing as a sailor, or a ghost, and only sort of as someone who'd love Gene Tierney, but it still worked out OK.
Ring of Bright Water -- OK, this movie came out in 1969, so if I'm giving a spoiler here, I don't care, and you need it. THE OTTER FLIPPING DIES. Since it's the exact same actors in Born Free, I kept waiting for the dude to let his pet swim off to live with the other otters, and all of a sudden, Wham! Down comes a shovel. Thpt.
North Dallas 40 -- Pretty good. I don't know. For some reason I thought it would be funnier.
Roger Dodger -- Not bad. Another in that New York Slightly Inappropriate Role Model genre, ala Igby Goes Down or Tadpole. But Campbell Scott is always good, imho.
Intermission -- I really liked this movie. More than it deserved. Bumbling Irish thugs, and a wronged wife beating the hell out of her husband in the middle of a public street, what more could you want??
Fun With Dick and Jane (The original.) -- Not bad. I hate myself for saying it, but I really liked Jane Fonda in this. She cracked me up. I didn't really like the ending though. I have a problem with people doing wrong things and getting away with it scot free -- even when they do them for the right reasons, which definitely wasn't the case here.
Fun With Dick and Jane (The remake.) -- Well, aside from the usual anti-corporate hooha, it was pretty funny and nicely modernized. And unlike the original, there was some moral redemption, which was nice. I'm not sure if I liked it better, but I did like it.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest -- Eh, it was good. I dunno. I realize it was all seminal and great, and that Jack wasn't, you know, "Wow, Jack" when he made the flick, but I've been there, done that on the Crazy Jack stuff. And apparently I'm entirely too practical for such movies, because when the Indian up and heaves the sink through the window, I asked, "Why didn't he just swipe a key in all the confusion of the previous scene and hold on to it til he had a chance to use it?" And too modern in my thinking in that I spent a lot of the movie going, "Wow, I'm pretty sure they'd get sued if they did that today." I'm not inspired to go read the book, though I understand it to be significantly different.
The Sheltering Sky -- Oh, my god. So long. So boring. So never getting that last hour of my life back.
Sideways -- I liked it, which I found odd since I didn't really like any of the characters very much. That's unusual for me.
Roger Dodger -- It was equal parts good and disturbing. I don't know how I feel about watching a kid try to get laid with help from his uncle.
Walk the Line -- Pretty good! Reese Witherspoon was really, really good. Mr Phoenix not so much, but I'd be hard-pressed to suggest a substitute, and he had a thankless job trying to capture such a well-known persona and voice...
Hotel Rwanda -- Totally depressing. Very good, but man. Hard to watch. Had to kiss the YP afterward. Had to watch another movie in order to sleep.
Living in Oblivion -- Aw, Dermot Mulroney is so cute! I usually don't like the idea of dream sequences, but it was neatly done in this one.
Garden State -- I liked it. Very cute. And Natalie Portman totally reminds me of NYAB's daughter.
Secret Lives of Dentists -- Well, it's got Campbell Scott. Need I say more? Yes? It's also got Denis Leary. Loved it.
Revenge of the Sith -- Um, yeah. I have some serious continuity issues.
Final -- Verrrry interesting. I had no idea it was going to end up where it did.
Hi Life -- This was really cute. Nicely done. And an all-star cast doing a flick I'd never heard of.
Must Love Dogs -- eh, a cute romantic comedy. I got John Cusack, NYAB got Diane Lane. Not a bad way to kill a couple hours.
Up Side of Anger -- OK, that didn't go at all where I was expecting it to. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure I'd sit through it again.
Other Voices -- Not bad. Kind of dark and hostile.
The Terminal -- Not as sucktacular as everyone assured me, but probably not worth the time invested for two or three good scenes.
Forty-Year-Old Virgin -- Not as good as everyone assured me, but probably worth the time invested as I wasn't expecting much anyway.
Bright Young Things -- Aw, I adore Stephen Fry. Even when he's not onscreen.
Watership Down -- Not a bad little cartoon. Might read the book as a result.
The Warriors -- Extensive review posted on 7/24/06
Cars -- Well, most of it. The YP demanded a video game intermission. Not a big loss, it was Doc Hollywood on wheels.
Jaws II -- not bad in a cheesy kind of way.
Darkman -- Ohmylord this movie suckity-sucked. How could a movie with Liam Neeson AND Frances MacDormand AND a soundtrack by Danny Elfman be THIS bad???
Tommy -- Meh. It was interesting. I'm not sure I need to see it again, though.
The Great Escape -- I liked it. But maybe it's just NYAB's incessant Charles Bronson imitations.
A Price Above Rubies -- It was interesting. Not fantastic, just interesting.
I Heart Huckabees -- I liked it. I can see why one wouldn't, but I did.
Happy Feet -- I liked seeing the kid get all fired up at this one. He liked the tunes. But apparently I hate Nicole Kidman even when all I have to do is hear her voice.
