Where have I been? Well, it's fascinating, I'll tell you. I get up at 3 and work from home til about 4:05. Then I get dressed, leap into the car and fly into work by 5:15 or so. Then I work on deadline until about 9 and then I am still in the office until 1 (Or 2. Or 2:30.) with a daily dollop of FaceBook Scrabble punctuated by meetings. Then I drive back home, and stare at the wall for about 20 minutes thinking I really should do something useful, but instead I answer e-mail on my BlackBerry or go into a FaceBook coma.
At 4, I pick up the kid, and we come home and either spend an intensive evening doing anything but look at television or I concede defeat and he plays video games while I sink into a DVD coma, or answer e-mail, or get online and track what is happening at work.
NYAB comes home around 8. We eat. The kid gets ready for bed, then I flop into bed myself by 9:15 and maybe talk to NYAB for 10 minutes before I pass out. Then I start all over again.
Wow. Is there a blog tag for "Good lord, my existence is pathetic and I need to turn off the laptop"?? Nothing makes for good blogging like a workaholic with an online addiction, right?
In between all that non-excitement, we did take the Young Prince to a hockey game on Saturday for his birthday. If I ever get my act together, I will post photos, and perhaps the photos will jog my memory to write a recap.
I also took the cat to the vet on Tuesday. It seems she came down with a case of diabetic edge of death. I'd set a limit of $500 to keep her alive, but the little brat (can you call a cat a bitch? It seems wrong,) is dribbling out her recovery in small doses and for the past two days the vets have told me she could die at any second, recover in a day, be there up to a week. But she is steadily improving which means putting her down is ... not advised, per the vets. I am thinking that maybe next time she will get the needle right at the outset. Blurgh.
In other news, I have committed. Or need to be committed. Or something. July 25, you may recall, is my 20th high school reunion. I know I previously included the link to where it will be held, but there really is no such thing as too much mockery of a bad Web site, so have at it. I will be staying in this suite. I find the horse a bit frightening. We leave home early Friday the 24th, and because we can't really countenance a trip to Florida without a pit stop at the Helliest Place on Earth, (or is California the Helliest and Florida is Second-Helliest?) we will spend Friday night in Orlando and spend the first part of Saturday visiting the Money Sucking Mouse. Then we'll hie ourselves west for the reunion, spend the night and Sunday head back the other direction. There has been some talk of a Sunday outing -- beaches? Rockets? We don't know. Maybe just brunch. The other fun part is that NeighborSitterGirl is going to be all fancy and accompany us as a nanny poseur so that the Young Prince will have someone to talk to while NYAB and I attend the reunion.
I am curious about this reunion. FaceBook must be God's Gift to high school reunion planners and aficionados. It's been 20 years, for god's sake, yet all manner of people from that era have surfaced and presented their 25 Things meme and blablabla. I'd imagine at least some of them intend to show up in July, though others remain fiercely opposed. Frankly, I'm hoping I get to spend at least five minutes with at least one person I'll actually be excited to talk to. La. Aim low.
Any of y'all plan to be around that area that weekend? You could come see our terrifying Suite in Which I Probably Won't Sleep a Wink But Should Offer Decent Story Value....
