So, the school sends home this big folder full of "homework" -- which is a blank form where the kids are supposed to write down the names of books they read -- and "notes from school," and blabla.
One of the sections is a disciplinary section.
Monday: YP was humming. He needs to listen.
Me: YP, stop humming. I know you do it without realizing it, but when you hear yourself, stop. And when others say something, stop.
YP: OK.
Tuesday: YP was a model student.
Me: Rah!
YP: Yeah.
Wednesday: YP kicked Anthony in line. Later, cut up some crayons.
Me: Huh? YP??
YP: Well, I wanted to see what was inside the crayons.
Me: And the kicking?
YP: Anthony was in front of me in line. And he is SO SLOW!!
NYAB: Where were you going in line?
YP: Back to class.
NYAB and Me (Stifling the giggles like the road-ragey hypocrites we are): Don't kick people.
YP: OK. But he IS slow.
Ohh, YP, when you read this in a few years, please know that I probably would have kicked him too. And so would your daddy, but he'd never admit it.
YP is also in his first round of night fear, apparently. After all the crazy stuff he has sat through on television, what finally gets him too scared to sleep at night? Some episode of Goosebumps on the Cartoon Network. Oy vey.
In other news, the wheels of gifted programs turn slowly, apparently. The coordinator called me last week to tell me he was still on her agenda, whatever that means. I assume that means he will be in the gifted program right around the time we haul his ass off to private school.
Meanwhile, we are augmenting at home. The kid has learned a little bit about Indians and Christopher Columbus, yesterday we discussed density (he was verrrrry confused that an egg was heavier than a gummy bear, but that the bear would sink in salt water even though the egg would float,) and his math is proceeding apace.
I have reverted to my original position: The only thing school is good for is learning how to avoid getting beat up by your peers and how to to look busy and stay out of the boss's way.
Rah.
Those goosebumps episodes can be scarey! Just to make him feel better though, I remember very vividly having a nightmare from seeing a rerun of Gilligan's Island when I was little...
