First, an invitation: If anyone in the DC area is interested in helping make a short film the weekend of May 2, shoot me an email. Seriously, I'm looking for people to act, write, do sound, write a musical score, be an extra, hold a mic, whatever. (Ardent, you know I'm looking at you and your friends, right?)
So, last night it occurred to me that the only way I'll ever really exercise reliably is if there's a way to do it while sitting in front of my laptop or TV set. And then I started woolgathering about an office chair that is a stationary bike. In other words, I wanted to be able to sit at a desk and work on my laptop, but exercise by pedaling at the same time. I had it all drafted out in my mind and knew what it would look like and what I'd call it.
And then I Googled this morning and discovered it already exists! So maybe some birthday money will go to getting one of these... hopefully if I do get one, it won't turn into a dust collector. Does anyone have one of these? Do they work? Or do they break in 5 minutes?
Damn! I totally would help if it weren't my sister's graduation weekend. Bah.

I've seen some folks on TV who have really high desks set up over their treadmills, so they can work on the laptop whilst walking. Seems like a good setup to me.

Is this product why Sharper Image went under? Huh.

By utter coincidence, I watched a treadmill/computer on a rerun of the Graham Norton show just this week. He got a woman to walk on it and made her try to type while walking and it was just this close to impossible. And that's just typing. I can't imagine trying to operate a mouse -- touchpad or rollerball -- while running.
But helping with a movie might be fun.

I'll put the word out, but I might be stressing about finals that weekend

The Harriet Carter version of the pedal thing, I bought, lasted about 90 days. The hard part was getting balanced just right so that the thing didn't flip up. Once I got that down, I was good. Then I pedaled the gears to death.
That one looks sturdier, tho.
