It's been a rough couple weeks for getting things done. From the Super Bowl through the federal budget into Super Tuesday and then the YP's birthday and ensuing party crusing right on into NYAB getting sick and my having to bake a zillion cookies for the YP's daycare Valentine party, I've been ... let's call it busy.
But the YP got sent home from day care today with a 102-degree fever, and looked legitimately sick until I put in him the car, when he perked right up to the point where I'd have sworn he was faking -- until he fell asleep on the ride home. Then woke up enough to watch a movie and passed out halfway through the second feature. (Which, can I just say, Thank God. Because "High School Musical"? Suu-huu-hucks. God is getting even with me for subjecting my parents to Xanadu.)
All of which is to say, I have time to post! So here, with no further ado: The infamous "National Geographic Cake," more or less as requested by the YP. And now, if you didn't before, you know his real name.
It didn't turn out quiiiite the way I wanted, but close enough. Of course, what the YP really wanted probably would have been easier. He wanted a "National Geographic Polar Bear Cake," -- and if I'd remembered he had some plastic polar bears in the basement I would have done it, because, duh. White frosting, plastic bears, piece of -- well, cake. But we went this way instead, since the party was more or less geared toward a jungle animal theme (Party Co. does not stock "National Geographic" party favors, I'm sorry to report.)
The party went fairly well. I had several structured activities, but didn't need nearly as many of them as I thought...
... because the bouncyhouse that my parents bought the YP a few years back was a fantastic hit and everyone wanted to know where I had rented it. Hee.
I think this is my favorite picture. I took exactly zero pictures at the party, so it's ok for me to say I like them. It's probably also ok for me to say that I should definitely be the one taking all pictures next time, because all pictures taken OF me were so horrifying I'm surprised the camera didn't break.
Also of note: We had a pinata. Don't think we'll be doing that again -- not cos of the mess, but because it took FOREVER to bust the thing. So we'll wait until the attendees are bigger and stronger, and we can have an outdoor party and tie the thing to a tree branch and get way the hell out of the way.
I hafta say, I think the best gift the kid got was this superhuge Spiderman tent from Former Sitter and Longtime Friends Family.
After the party was over, we went with Longtime Friends Family to the Cracker Barrel for dinner. And after that, NYAB went to bed and though he made it to work early in the week, we more or less didn't hear from him again til today. Apparently he is coming out of it just in time for the kid to get it. Me, I'm wearing a gas mask and a veil.
And yet, despite being on his deathbed, the man came through for the holiday:
And now I'm more or less back, and even though I've had a staffer quit and my life is going to go to hell the week after next, I should have five good days of posting in me. If I can find anything to post about! See you around...

OH MY GOD YOU HAVE A BOUNCY HOUSE HOW COOOOOOOOOOOOL!
